FAQ

Pacifiers

Before first use, and at regular intervals thereafter, boil the pacifier in water for up to five minutes.

Please avoid leaving the pacifier in the sterilising solution for longer than the time recommended. Sometimes water may enter the inside of the nipple, this is because of a ventilation systems that exists in the nipple.

When the baby closes down on the nipple, the air from inside the nipple is pushed out through the ventilation system thereby flattening the nipple and adapting to the baby´s individual oral cavity. So, the ventilation hole is needed in order to allow for proper development of your baby's jaw and mouth.

Check the pacifier before each use - especially when baby is teething - and throw away at the first signs of damage or weakness. However, we recommend the soother be replaced every two months for hygienic purposes.

No. All MAM pacifier are developed in cooperation with medical experts and comply with international safety standards and minimal size regulations for pacifiers. It is impossible for babies to swallow them.

In rare cases, babies can manage to squeeze the entire pacifier in their mouths. Should the pacifier become lodged in baby's mouth, remove the pacifier as gently as possible by grabbing the pacifier button. It is designed to be easily and safely removed.

Latex is a soft, resilient, natural rubber. It is eco-friendly and much more flexible than silicone. However, after prolonged use, the material can change. If latex is stored in a hot area of your home, or is in contact with sunlight for an extended period of time, its shape can change and is then stripped from its qualities. Furthermore, because it is a natural material, the latex can become sticky and begin to look unhygienic. There is no clear scientific evidence for a connection between latex teats and latex allergy. If you are a parent who wishes to avoid using latex, you can simply do so by using a soother with a silicone teat.

Silicone is an intensively tested, well-tolerated plastic that does not age. It complies with all the applicable requirements of FDA and EN 1400, however, is not as bite resistant and a little less elastic than latex. Consequently, we recommend you thoroughly inspect a soother before each time baby uses it, especially if baby is teething and uses a silicone pacifier.

MAM has developed an innovative silicone nipple: the SkinSoft™ nipple. The silicone nipple is silicone with a difference as it is soft and feels like mom's breast. Thanks to the anti-slip surface, the soother easily stays in baby's mouth.

Yes, our MAM pacifiers support baby’s healthy jaw and teeth development. MAM collaborates with medical experts from various disciplines to help develop and design innovative, physiologically shaped pacifiers that suit baby’s various developmental stages.

All MAM pacifiers have a flat and symmetrical nipple shape: there is no ‘top’ or ‘bottom’. This special nipple shape ensures that our pacifiers are always correctly positioned in the babies’ mouth.

MAM pacifiers have a ventilation system in the teat. In more detail, when your baby closes its mouth down on the teat, the air from inside the nipple is pushed out through the ventilation system, thereby flattening the nipple, and adapting to the baby´s individual oral cavity.

The button on the pacifier has a crystal structure that absorbs and then gives off light. This is “naturally recharged” by daylight during the day, enabling baby or parents to easily find it again at night.

The glow-in-the-dark button cannot be charged using LED light.

Yes, of course. MAM safety and quality standards are extremely high. Every one of our products is thoroughly tested and approved to be 100% safe for babies.

This depends on the charging time and light source (such as the intensity of natural light during the day). Because of this, it is not possible to give a precise answer. However, under optimal conditions, the glow effect can last for up to 500 minutes.

Babies are born with the natural urge to suck. Pacifiers with a symmetrical, thin and jaw-friendly teat, if no longer used by the child’s 3rd birthday, support a healthy development. When the child wants to sleep, needs comforting or wants to relax, he or she will be happy about having a pacifier.

You can choose refrain soother usage when the baby is playing as the baby is already distracted, and most likely, relaxed by interaction of toys. Many paediatric dentists and other medical experts do recommend the use of pacifiers because it is much easier to wean a baby off of pacifiers than it is to wean off of thumb-sucking.

Sucking calms and relaxes babies, but all infants are different and have their individual needs. MAM pacifiers can help babies to develop a healthy oral cavity, however medical experts recommend limiting pacifier use to less than 6 hours per day. This will help to support the healthy development of the oral cavity in the best possible way. Keep also in mind every child’s mouth and teeth develop differently. Therefore, please, discuss with your paediatric dentist the usage time according to the development and age of your baby.

The need for non-nutritive sucking decreases from the first year of life as the child starts to talk, walk, and eat more solid food. However, there is no fixed rule. This progression depends on the child’s physiological and emotional development. MAM recommends giving up pacifier usage at 3 years of age or younger.

No. MAM products do not contain softening agents. MAM only uses materials that meet the highest expectations and safety standards of the FDA and EN 1400. Hence, all MAM pacifiers are completely baby-safe. They do not contain BPA, BPS, PVC, Phthalate, and Lead.

  • Limit where the pacifier is used: baby is only allowed the pacifier in bed.
  • Symbolically give the pacifier away: the child will be happy about an agreed something in return.
  • Stories and fairy tales about stopping pacifier use support parents.
  • Strengthen the child’s self-confidence: big girls and boys don’t need pacifiers!
  • MAM recommends giving up pacifier usage at 3 years of age or younger.

Nitrosamines and nitrosatable substances are chemicals that are found in such things as fried bacon, smoked meat and rubber products – like latex nipples. Sucking on a soother can release small amounts of nitrosamines. – Latex, however, contains far fewer nitrosamines than grilled meat or cosmetic products for example.

MAM supports healthy development for babies: this is why all our raw materials are strictly controlled to ensure they have the lowest possible nitrosamines and nitrosatable substances value.

At production all teats are ‚leached’. Explained simply, this means that with a special method they are washed for 48 hours. This ‚leaching’ removes the majority of the nitrosamines and nitrosatable substances, while at the same time also reducing the risk of a latex allergy.

MAM regularly has cargos of nipples – complete production runs of teats – controlled by an independent laboratory.

Always boil pacifiers before first use – for additional child safety!

The product carbon footprint (PCF) refers to total CO2 emissions during a product’s life cycle. The emissions from production, including raw material, extraction and transport, as well as product use such as cleaning, sterilization and disposal, are taken into account.

Three main results were identified

1. All sampled soothers show almost the same CO2 footprint: there is no significant difference.
2.
76% of the CO2 footprint comes from cleaning and sterilising the soother.
3. The type of sterilization affects the CO2 footprint most: when using the MAM transport and sterilisation box, parents can prevent 77% of CO2 emissions and save energy.

MAM Clip

Yes. MAM designers have developed a clip that meets all safety standards requirements and at the same time also looks stylish.

The length of the leash on all MAM Clips is within regulation and strangulation dangers are virtually impossible. The leash should NEVER be lengthened or fastened to lose parts and strings! Check the leash for damage before use and always clip on firmly!

The clip can also be used for other pacifiers. Although the innovative silicone ring on the MAM clip was designed to snuggly fit the knob on all MAM pacifiers, MAM pacifier clip can be attached to pacifiers with rings, as well.

Make sure you detach the silicone ring and plastic clip from the pacifier keeper leash as they do lose their shape in boiling water and sterilisers. Once these spare parts have been removed, you can throw the leash in the wash, or hand-wash them. The plastic clip and silicone ring can be hand washed with soap and water.

Yes. Like our entire product line, it meets all regulations. The band material complies with all international regulations and meets the OEKO-Tex standards for materials tested for harmful substances as well as the requirements of the German “Bedarfsgegenständeverordnung” for the use of Azo-colourants.

Being able to adjust the length makes the clip even more versatile. The MAM Clip It! can be attached to all sorts of different soothers, toys and teethers. By adjusting the length of the clip, however, it can even be adapted to the current situation. For example, if the baby is crawling, the clip can be shortened to avoid the soother dragging along the floor. Alternatively, if baby is lying or sitting, it can be made longer to allow easy access to the soother in any position.

MAM Pod

The MAM Pod can be cleaned with mild soap and water. A soft sponge can be used. Rinse thoroughly afterwards and let it dry before using it again.
