In the mid-70s, Peter Röhrig nearly put his heart and soul into the development of microwave tableware. Instead, the young father invented a new type of pacifier for babies and has been wanting to ensure a healthy future for them ever since.

Mr. Röhrig, you developed a revolutionary pacifier 47 years ago. How did this innovation come to be?

Peter Röhrig: I've always had a passion for inventing things. When I became a father, the idea of developing pacifiers was born. Together with orthodontists, dentists, paediatricians, and the designer Ernst Beranek, we managed to turn my vision of producing particularly safe pacifiers with an appealing design, and medically proven benefits into reality.

Inventiveness has been a MAM success factor right from the start. Which patents are you particularly proud of?

Peter Röhrig: I am especially proud of the MAM Perfect pacifier, with its very thin teat neck which prevents misaligned teeth. The Easy Start Anti-Colic baby bottle is also a flagship product. It reduces colic and can easily be made germ free with the self-sterilizing function, which also saves energy.

Where and by whom are these innovations developed?

Peter Röhrig: Our research and development team has grown to over 50 employees. The team includes experts from the fields of materials, products, packaging, and other departments. Innovation only comes about through collaboration and a large dose of passion. In the new Research & Development Competence Center there are no limits for innovative thoughts.

How did you manage to anchor sustainability in the company and what role does innovation play in this?

Peter Röhrig: We bear responsibility for the next generations and a future worth living for them. Therefore, we started investing in energy efficiency measures for our plants at an early stage. To remain fit for the future, I see a great opportunity in the recyclable design of our products.  We will accomplish this task through innovative spirit, collaboration and, above all, with a lot of heart.
